CANON INFORMATION
CHARACTER NAME: Emizel
CANON: Disgaea 4
HISTORY: Wiki
STRENGTHS:
Loyal/Trustworthy - Though sometimes difficult to convince, once Emizel has committed to someone, or an ideal, he is unlikely to let it go. He eventually adopted Valvatorez's philosophy that demons are bound by whatever they promise to do (or else suffer a 'severe pain', which is a good enough motivator for anything), though it really just means Emizel's more cautious about the things he agrees to do. But it goes a little bit further than that. Emizel had always believed in his father, before and after he was abandoned, and in the temporary alliance with Axel trusted that he had his back...until finding out that he was being used the whole time.
Honest - For better or worse, if there's something on Emizel's mind he will say it. He is a demon of many opinions and will likely call out if your reasoning doesn't make any sense. ...After his big development change this also meant that he was much more open about himself too, and being capable of admitting to his past mistakes. He is also okay with saying that he loves his father too, which is a pretty unusual thing to hear among demons (being often emotionally stunted or the massive tsunderes that they are).
Lawful Alignment - tl;dr: Shit happens for a reason and everyone has their place and purpose. Emizel had been indoctrinated early on what's normal so that certain cycles can keep repeating, the cycle of death and rebirth and the ongoing relationship between humans and demons being the two major ones. Going against the grain (even though, he personally fails at doing his part in both of these) means there's an imbalance and bad things are soon to follow, rules aren't meant to be broken, yada yada. For the most part, he generally believes whatever ruling power is in charge is trying to do the right thing or knows what it is doing. Very rarely he will try to question it unless given a very good reason, or it conflicts with own values.
FLAWS:
Not Persuaded by Words - An obvious given considering everything else said, Emizel is stubborn AF. The only way to seriously convince him anything is by actually proving it to him. Could be a blessing or a curse, since it means that he is less likely to turn or sell someone out for some weak excuse. However in most cases (before canon development) it makes him rather annoying to deal with.
Cowardly - ...He is a wimp. Deep, very deep down he knows this. Emizel has been a failure because he would rather run from problems than fight them, and use his status and father's title as a proverbial shield. Eventually he does grow out of this, he's still wary of most things under the sun but he will at least fight back - figuratively and literally.
Afraid of Women - Ever since dealing with Fuka, Desco, and Artina's gossip corners, Emizel has started to wonder if all women are nefarious schemers and it terrifies him, and he wants nothing to with any of it. To the point I'm sure if cooties was ever mentioned to him he would 100% believe it's a real disease. Which comes to show just how childish the fear actually is. After all, the three are still his
CANON ABILITIES: Emizel is about as textbook mage as it gets. In Disgaea terminology he would qualify as the Prism Skull/Mage class: proficient in ice, fire, and wind magic. And can use all three of them like any Joe Shmoe RPG spellcaster would.
But Emizel does have the extra perk of being Death - as in actual Death. He's got his own scythe to rip out souls and send them to the afterlife. Only problem is that he very nervous about taking lives (Whether it's an empathy thing or afraid he'll do something wrong, it's never fully explained why). At a point he also gets a transformation to a larger reaper/jester-like being that enhances his power even further.
All Disgaea demons are implied to be rather strong and sturdy physically, though in Emizel's case he is on the weaker end on the account of being a squishy mage. Meaning he is probably only as strong as he looks, but he is quite tough to actually kill. Their senses are also much more heightened than a human's too, being able to see and hear things much more clearly - and pick up on magical presences.
AU INFORMATION
AU CHARACTER NAME: Emizel
AGE: 1324, looks about 13
GRADE: shrug.png. His academic knowledge is all over the place and would been alive for most things historically...though still would have only known about important events through hearsay (and likely fed some false information). I'll just slap him into 7th or 8th grade based on appearance. Probably 7th if I had to pick only one. I'm not sure if grade really applies to him that much anyway when he's mainly here as part of a morality test.
AU BACKSTORY:
- Hugo was one of the baddest daemons around. Has killed countless humans in his lifetime, gone toe to toe with many other daemons (including one with an alleged Tyrant, the only battle so far that's ended in a stalemate), he is more commonly known as the "Death King" for good reasons.
- Many suspected he would be all for Nightfall, and for a good long while he was. However as the fated night kept drawing ever closer, he noticed humans were beginning to fight back harder than ever before. An understandable reaction for a race on the verge of extinction. But in all his time of hunting them down, he had never seen determination on this level before. It's somewhat admirable.
- Not many probably knew that Hugo had a son. It's not a thing he brings up often since...he's kind of weak, insufferable too. With the right amount of time and training though, he could possibly be just as strong as Hugo one day. ...And he is still quite impressionable, which is only other, and most important difference they had.
- It must have been a very stressful day for Daybreak to be approached by the Death King himself. Not to ruin their academy though, but allow Emizel to attend it for a bit, to learn as much as he can about humans. If they can somehow convince Emizel that their livelihood matters enough, then there is a good chance that he will fully join their side. It'll also be enough proof for Hugo that humankind is not as pathetic as he once thought, and at the very least, will remain absent when Nightfall inevitably begins. He won't be fighting for the humans' sake himself, they still have to prove themselves after all.
- Since that day, Emizel has been obnoxious at the academy and believes he's better than everyone else. (Spoiler Alert: He's not)
AU PERSONALITY DEVIATION: He's pretty much right back to how he originally started out in D4, only Emizel doesn't think he's the second most important demon in the Netherworld but just thinks of humans lowly as a whole. Not that he doesn't believe he's a special daemon, but there is bigger fish in the Outland sea - that reality is kept mostly in check.
Whether or not Emizel still had some admiration for Tyrant Valvatorez in the past, his opinion of him is...slightly different. Canonically he had more second-hand embarrassment that his hero ended up the way up that he did, here there's a bit more resentment that Val would give up his status to side with humans. Emizel doesn't understand it but it's kind of insulting/disgraceful to daemonkind and he's a tad salty about it.
Most other deviations would be traits he wouldn't have developed at this canon point yet anyway. He would have to regain them back naturally.
RACE: Daemon, specifically Death Daemon.
SECRET SOCIETY: Outlands denizen, daemon noble/royal so...yeah. He hasn't really been completely outside of home before so he doesn't know any of the societies well, or had time to make enemies among them. Though some of them are more than likely to hate him.
POWERS: Canon powers remain about the same, although he can't exactly go out setting whole villages on fire anymore. He also rarely uses a staff anymore too, though if he did he'd be closer to same power level as his canon counterpart.
Emizel's transformation (or true daemon form in this case) has been nerfed significantly as well. He can only hold it for a few minutes before it completely wears him out. What he can naturally do though is grow bone wings and a tail whenever he wants (and without taking any energy). The wings can only let him fly a short distance though, and the tail can sometimes be another melee weapon but most of the time it's just for looks.
The flame at the end of Emizel's hood can lure in souls of the dead (specifically souls, but technically any undead could be affected), similar to how light attracts a moth - however if they still contain most of their consciousness they might be able to resist it. It also has a tenancy to reflect Emizel's current mood. Hotter if angry or cold if sad or unwell. It is a spectral fire so it is safe to touch, otherwise it probably wouldn't be a fashion accessory. ...Then again, daemons have probably regularly worn things far more dangerous than that.
